How to use the estimate
- In KDP Reports, find KENP Read for one title, earnings month, and marketplace. Enter the credited monthly total, using plain digits such as
60000rather than60,000. Use the report's page-read total, not the book's KENPC length or print-page count. - Enter a per-KENP rate and its matching currency code, such as
USD. KDP rates change by month and marketplace. Choose Rate I entered from KDP for this month only when you have a KDP rate for the selected month and marketplace. If you reuse another month's rate or choose one to test, select My planning assumption. The calculator cannot verify the rate or convert currencies. - Read the estimated amount with the calculation, month, marketplace, and rate basis shown below it. A missing or invalid rate produces no amount;
0reported pages with a valid rate produces a zero estimate. If a field has an error, correct that value and estimate again.
How the calculation works
The calculator multiplies the KENP Read total by the full rate you enter for each page. It rounds the final product once to the selected currency's usual display unit, such as cents for USD or whole units for JPY. The result is based on your inputs, not a KDP rate quote or a confirmed payment.
A hypothetical USD estimate
If you enter 60000 KENP Read and an assumed rate of 0.00458 USD per KENP, the calculation is 60,000 × 0.00458 USD/KENP = 274.80 USD. The rate is for illustration only. It is not a current or verified KDP rate.
A positive USD amount that would round to zero appears as Less than 0.01 USD. For example, one page at the hypothetical rate above has that display. With a valid rate and zero KENP Read, the estimate is 0.00 USD. A blank rate means the amount is unknown, not zero.
What KENP Read and the rate mean
KDP assigns a Kindle eBook a normalized page count called KENPC. KENP Read is the credited number of those pages customers read, reported by title and marketplace. KDP pays for eligible pages a customer reads for the first time; rereading the same pages does not earn another page-read royalty. See KDP's Kindle Unlimited royalty guidance.
A KENP rate is the amount paid per credited page. KDP calculates a marketplace's monthly rate from its share of the KDP Select Global Fund and total KENP read there, so the rate can change by month and marketplace. KDP's Royalties Estimator guidance describes rates and planning estimates. The form's Rate I entered from KDP for this month choice records what you say about your source; it does not authenticate the rate. A rate borrowed from another month is a planning assumption for the month you selected.
Estimate versus final royalties
For a past month, check KDP's Prior Months' Royalties report for the amount your title earned from Kindle Unlimited. KENP totals can change until they are finalized near the 15th of the following month. A planning rate cannot establish the final amount, and this tool does not predict future reads.
The estimate does not include currency conversion, taxes, KDP Select bonuses, or ordinary eBook sales. For eBook sale or print royalty estimates, use the KDP royalty calculator.
