Enter the title. Add a subtitle if you have one. You can also describe the book topic, name its intended reader, or enter up to three target phrases on separate lines.
The review separates words found in the title or subtitle from words that appear only in your context. A target phrase must appear in order within one field; words split across the title and subtitle do not count as a match. Blank context is allowed and produces a title-only review. Edit the draft and submit it again to get a fresh result.
How to read exact matches
The review compares normalized word forms, but it does not infer synonyms, related ideas, or word roots. For example, herbs matches the same word in your book topic, while grow does not match growing. A term shown only in your context is a prompt to reread the title, not a requirement to put that word on the cover.
Topic and phrase check
For the title Balcony Herbs and subtitle Growing Food in Small Spaces, the topic Grow herbs on apartment balconies and small patios shares herbs and small literally with the draft. The phrase balcony herbs appears in the title; urban gardening does not appear in either field. These matches say nothing about search demand or title quality.
Counts and KDP guidance
The character counts include spaces and punctuation. When both title and subtitle contain text, the combined local count includes one separator between them. At exactly 200 local characters, KDP's official pages disagree about the boundary. KDP also has not published its counting method, so confirm the fields in your KDP account.
Repeated words, shared title and subtitle phrases, and missing context terms are review prompts. The analyzer does not judge clarity, cover fit, relevance, trademark permission, uniqueness, ranking, or sales. Use the KDP metadata checker for a whole-listing review.
For the current rules, see KDP's metadata guidelines, title and edition guidance, book details guidance, and keyword guidance. KDP does not guarantee top search placement; its search results guidance describes factors that can affect ordering.
