How do I read the result?

The yearly figure assumes every month looks like this one. Ad rates move through the year, so treat it as a rough total, not a forecast.

What is RPM?

RPM means revenue per mille: what you earn for every 1,000 pageviews (page RPM) or sessions (session RPM). It adds up every ad on the page. Google defines it as estimated earnings divided by pageviews, times 1,000.

Page RPM

Formula

RPM = ad revenue ÷ pageviews × 1,000

What's the difference between CPM and RPM?

CPM is what an advertiser pays for 1,000 views of one ad. RPM is what you earn for 1,000 pageviews across every ad. When a page loads more than one ad, your RPM is higher than your CPM. Enter the CPM your network shows you, after its cut, so the RPM matches what you're paid.

Page RPM or session RPM?

Use whichever your network reports. A session usually includes more than one pageview, so session RPM runs higher than page RPM for the same site. Mediavine points out the two can't be compared directly, so compare page RPM with page RPM.

Is my dashboard RPM before or after the network's cut?

After, for most networks. AdSense reports your share once Google takes its part, so its RPM is your share, not the advertiser's price.

What's a good RPM?

It depends on your niche, where your readers live, and your ad network. We don't show a typical range, because published figures mix page and session RPM and measure different sites. Your own RPM over a few months is the best benchmark.

How is the answer worked out?

Revenue is traffic × RPM ÷ 1,000. RPM from CPM is CPM × ad impressions per pageview or session. RPM from revenue is revenue ÷ traffic × 1,000. Yearly figures use 12 months at the same traffic and RPM, and every result is rounded to the cent only at the end. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
