Sovrn checks that your content is current and brand safe, and that you own the site. You need a working business domain and an ad system ID, and you must keep your ads.txt file up to date. Resellers also need a sellers.json file.
How long approval takes depends on outside checks and whether your site needs a manual review.

Is Sovrn a fit for a small site?
Not for the Ad Exchange. It asks for more than 100,000 visits a month. Once you're in, its $25 payment minimum is lower than Google AdSense's $100.
